Private Hospital Wimbledon

Private Hospital Wimbledon

The Scope

Receptek have worked with this leading private healthcare provider in the UK over the last 3 years to achieve a corporate standard and design for their hospitals. This project included the fitted furniture for the 8 bedrooms and en-suites bathrooms plus feature walls and signage to the lift lobby, a reception desk with associated storage and specialist laundry cupboards for the corridor spaces serving each bedroom.

Designers Comment

“I have no hesitation in saying that this has got to be as good as it gets globally. How can that be? Simply due to the hours and hours of design time, end-user involvement, prototyping and relentless quest for perfection. Unlike many private hospital bedrooms the patients in this ward will sometimes stay for months. This has to become a home for them. This is the ultimate demonstration of how Receptek bridge the ‘concept to reality’ design gap. Once the final drawings have been produced there is very little way of demonstrating the amount of value in them or tracking the total time spent. Thankfully both client and architect respected that and the end product showcases what value a strong collaborative approach can yield.”

Receptek proposed the use of recycled glass for the worktops on the main reception desk. The net result is stunning with what appears and feels like stone yet without the typical joining issues associated with stone. It was a real challenge to maintain the overall design intent and balance the budget. But we did it.

“The time and effort spent planning the ergonomics of all items to be incorporated was well worth the effort. The end users were included in the design process from the start resulting in a final installation exactly as required without compromising the overall aesthetics. The budget was very tight but the client got a high value solution.”

“These must be some of the most spacious and comfortable birthing rooms in the world. It has been a very interesting project to have been involved in with many new ideas now added to our repertoire. In future we would recommend producing a full-scale prototype to involve input from the end users as early as possible.”

“Particularly rewarding was the client’s immediate endorsement of the lavender theme. This flows from the main reception right through into the bunker rooms and provides an abstract contribution to this healing environment. Another Receptek contribution has been the introduction of the suspended ‘Halo’ above the main reception. Due to the space being double storey the halo helps draw visitors to the reception point and creates a more welcome feel.”

Contractor Mansell (Balfour Beatty) engaged the services of Receptek in one of the most challenging but exciting projects for the Great Ormond Street Hospital main reception. However this is no ordinary reception desk. It is in fact 12 meters long and needed to incorporate 3 separate reception areas, a security shutter, glazed screens, column encasements and lit feature panels. Oh and it had to look like a boat!

“From the start I became driven by the desire to really do something special for all these children that attend GOSH. You cannot attend this hospital without being impressed by the total commitment to care. Irrespective of race, colour, status or religion and despite the critical nature of what it is being faced by many children and parents, there is a palpable atmosphere of optimism that has an impact on one’s spirit. I believe that what we as a team – the contractor, the client, the architect and Receptek – have achieved creates an environment that captures this optimism.”

“The is the epitome of what Receptek excel at in the Healthcare Environment. I love the ‘no handles’ aspect of the design on the Head Walls. By using Corian on the face panels we were able to create a seamless ‘scallop’ in lieu of a handle.”
